The Salt Marshes

Camping near the salt marshes of Saint Hilaire de Riez and Noirmoutier

At only 20 mn from the 4 star Bois Verdon campsite in Saint Jean de Monts, during your stay in a pitch or in a large comfort mobile home, you can visit the salt marshes of Saint Hilaire de Riez.

Discover, during the guided tour in the heart of the marshes, how salt is harvested, with the good advice of the salt worker and his ancestral techniques. Take advantage of this moment to deepen your knowledge on the fauna and flora of the marshes and finish your visit by tasting and selling salt directly from the producer.

Near Noirmoutier, before the entrance of the Gois passage, visit the salt marsh ‘les Boucheaux’ in Beauvoir sur Mer. The salt marshes will welcome you, dressed in period costume, and will share with you their passion for their profession. At the end of the visit, you will appreciate the different flavors and textures of the salt sold directly on site.

When you arrive in Noirmoutier, only 30 minutes from the Bois Verdon campground, you can walk along the Noirmoutier salt marshes which cover a third of the island and bring together about a hundred salt marsh workers. Visits take place from June to September. The producers will be delighted to show you their know-how and advise you, during the sale of salt on the spot (coarse salt, fleur de sel de Noirmoutier, sea salt…).

Camping near the salt marshes les Salines in Sables d’Olonne

1 hour drive from the 4* campsite Le Bois Verdon, come and discover the salt adventure park, Les Salines, which covers 10 hectares in the Olonne marshes.

You can opt for a simple visit of 2/3 hours, or for a commented boat trip in the salt marshes, or for a canoe or paddle trip.

The visit will be punctuated by different animations realized by the salt producers themselves and the children will be able to participate in the harvest of salt.

On site, a store selling salt is open from March to November.
